DPF Cleaning
Are you familiar with DPF cleaning? Since 2007, diesel particulate filters (DPF) have been an essential part of your truck’s emissions system. DPF’s capture about 90% of diesel particles and soot and prevents them from being released through the exhaust system. Reasons to keep your DPF Clean As your DPF collects harmful particles, the filters inevitably begin to get clogged. Causing issues such as: Reduced fuel economy Engine damage and reduced power Increased need for replacement filters Decreased truck re-sale value Therefore, it is important to not let this maintenance slip under your radar. How often to clean your DPF This can depend on your truck and oil type. For example, if your truck is doing mainly “stop-and-go” driving, you may need your DPF cleaned more often. If you are unsure of whether your DPF is in need of cleaning, contact your local Metro Truck service department. How to clean your DPF DPF cleaning includes heat, compressed air and a combination of the two. This […]
Winter Driving Tips
As the winter weather approaches and temperatures start to drop, it is important to anticipate challenging driving conditions. Whether you are a new driver or a seasoned driver, here are some tips to help keep you safe on the roads this season: 1. Inspect your truck Ensure your vehicle is in proper condition by checking your battery, tire pressure/condition, keep your fuel levels above half a tank. Stay topped up on antifreeze, and consider using a fuel conditioner to help prevent diesel from gelling in the dropping temperatures. Clear your truck and trailer of all snow and ice, and let your truck warm up before heading out on the road. BONUS TIP: Keep up on your trucks maintenance schedule, and bring any concerns you may have to your mechanics attention. 2. Plan your route Before starting your trip, take a minute to plan out your route. Look ahead to any posted weather statements, such as poor visibility, icy conditions etc. Flag all truck stops along your route, so if the need to pull off the road arises – your already prepared with a plan. BONUS TIP: Share your route with a colleague, friend or family member. 3. Slow down Reducing […]
